I think the thing I love about Melbourne is the ability to have an awesome time even if you’re super broke, which is a state I often find myself in.

It’s especially awesome if you have an RDO on a Monday and you live in the inner-north, because then you can hit up Cheap Monday Movie Day at Cinema Nova!

All movies are $6 before 4pm and $8 thereafter. Just to put it in perspective, the last time  I went to Hoyts it cost me $18. When you add in some kind of Coke-and-popcorn combo which costs approximately $100, that’s not a cheap day out.

I’m a little obsessed with my mental list of places in and around the CBD where I can get a decent feed for under $5. Part of me wants to jealously hold this list to my chest, so as not to be ruined by hordes of hungry students, or worse, the irritating corporate set.

Alas, my conscience will not let me keep these places to myself. Which is why I’m about to tell about one of my favourites - $1 taco night on Thursdays at the Dan O’Connell on Princes St, Carlton.

Yes. That’s right. $1 tacos! And $5 pints! You’re practically making money!
